Dental Cleaning

Professional dental cleaning is performed at a dental office by your dentist. At BIDC, a routine dental cleaning include the process of dental scaling and dental polishing.

1. Dental Scaling: involves plaque and tartar removal from the surface of teeth. Teeth scaling may be done by ultrasonic airflow or traditional scaling tools by hand scapers. Both methods of dental scalings are available at BIDC.
2. Dental Polishing: invovles finishing or shining the surface of the teeth. Dental polishing may be done by prophy waterjets as with airflow or a rubber tip polishing with prophy paste. Prophy jet teeth polishing works by spraying high pressured water mixed with a paste onto the surface of your teeth. This powered water can wash away the residue and plaque; the power paste removes stains on teeth.

People with more tartar and plaque buildup need longer dental cleaning appointments visits than those who have relatively cleaner teeth. A typical dental cleaning takes about 30 minutes.

Professional dental cleaning is recommended to be performed every six months or bi-annually to prevent plaque from build up excessively on teeth surface. Lack of teeth cleaning allows the plaque growth and if plaque is left unchecked can lead to dental problems such as teeth decay or gum issues.
